Distinction between different roof tiles and their different use
First, we must make the necessary distinctions between all types of roof tile.
The first type of terracotta tiles represents the oldest and traditional coverage. The curved shape and the fact of being placed in double layer promotes the flow of rainwater, also boosting the capacity of the incoming heat dissipation (that is reduced by 90 -95%).
The second type of terracotta tiles have reduced the distance that separated them offering a range of shapes and colors that were unthinkable a few years ago. Both are used for the coverage.
The characteristics of our hand-made terracotta tiles
The typical dimensions of the roof tiles is variables in the various regional traditions and is among 45-50 cm in length for a width of 13-20 cm.The laying of the tiles is performed by placing a first layer of elements with the concavity facing upwards, and the wider end of the roof tile to the ridge line, arranged in aligned rows and adjoining starting from the eaves to the ridge.
On this first layer are arranged other tiles, with the concavity facing downwards and the large end of the roof tile to the gutter line. The main purpose of the tiles is to protect the building from rain, preventing it from infiltrating, damaging the structure and affecting the habitability.
There are several types of tiles that vary depending on location and used materials.
